The horse races are by age five years with the riders no older than 13 years of age when they retire. Annual Naadam Festival in Bunkhan, Mongolia. They compete for 20 kilometers bareback horse race. Many only wear socks to cut down on the weight of bulky boots and almost all have a dashur a crop to urge their horses on. Most go bareback, though a few ride on light racing saddles.
